About 8 years ago, Sarah Kennedy (radio and TV presenter) had a campaign to bring back Showboats, and eventually Waitrose Supermarket began selling them. However, somehow, they just did not seem to be the same, and the experiment only lasted months. H and I actually met the grandson of the founder of Kunzle cakes and became very good friends.

R.I.P. Nov 17, 2012. #8. Bringing back Kunzle cakes was talked about a few years ago however, it was determined that they would be too expensive to make as they require. a lot of manpower i.e money. There were campaigns in 2005 via blogs and Sarah Kennedy on radio to bring back the Showboat cake but failed for the above reason.

Kunzle Showboats Just goes to show - no request too unusual for Tasty Bakes! We were recently asked to make "Kunzle Showboats" - to appear in a BBC drama no less! Apparently production of these delicious goodies was ceased in the 1970's, so it was a bit tricky to research what they actually consisted of!

Kunzle cake is possibly one of my favourite sweet treats (and that's saying a lot) its super easy to make as no baking is required and is perfect for any party or those lazy Netflix's days. To make Kunzle cake you will need: 200g hobnobs or digestives, 85g Butter, 1tbsp Golden Syrup and 1 dessert spoon of granulated sugar

Method. Melt margerine, sugar, chocolate powder and syrup in a saucepan over gentle heat. Do not boil. When completely dissolved, add biscuits crumbs. Mix thoroughly. Put in a greased, lined (non-stick) tin. Leave to set in a cool place. Coat with chocolate icing.

Insert the cake into the chocolate shell. Make butter cream, flavour with chocolate, cofee or a mixture of both. Top off the cake in the shell with butter cream. Add a small chocolate to the cake, could be a chocolate drop made from spare melted chocolate, or a slice of chocolate truffle.
